DHAKA: A new political party led by young people will be launched this month. The party aims to represent the people’s aspirations, as existing parties have failed to do so.

Hasnat Abdullah, a Dhaka University student and a key leader of last year’s anti-discrimination movement, made the announcement. He spoke at a press conference at the central office of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the capital on Wednesday.

The party’s policies will be based on public opinion. To gather input, a weeklong campaign will be launched to directly collect people’s views on politics and the country’s future. Over one lakh citizens have already shared their opinions.

Nasir Uddin Patwary, convener of Jatiya Nagorik Committee, said no interim government advisers will be allowed to join the new party while in office.

Hasnat is a leading member of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. This group led last year’s July-August mass protests, which resulted in the ousting of the Awami League government on August 5.

It was widely expected that the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and Jatiya Nagorik Committee would form a political party. Their goal is to build a corruption-free and terrorism-free political landscape.
