DHAKA: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed all television channels in Bangladesh to immediately suspend the broadcast of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The order was issued through an official letter sent to television broadcasters on Monday, instructing them to halt all live matches and IPL-related programming with immediate effect.
According to the ministry, the decision was taken in response to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) excluding Bangladesh national team star Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad for the upcoming IPL season.
The letter stated that no reasonable explanation was provided by the Indian cricket board for the exclusion, a move that has “deeply hurt and angered” the people of Bangladesh.
“In view of the prevailing situation, all chief executives of television channels have been instructed to stop broadcasting IPL matches and related content until further notice,” the directive added.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has also officially decided not to travel to India for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, marking a significant escalation in sporting tensions between the two countries.
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul revealed the decision on Sunday, describing it as a necessary response to what he termed the “radical communal policy” of Indian cricket authorities.
