DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said his party is determined to eliminate extortion and corruption from their roots if it comes to power.
Speaking at an election rally, he said Jamaat would take a firm stance against those involved in corrupt practices. At the same time, he added that individuals would be given an opportunity to reform and return to an honest life.
“We want to uproot extortionists and the corrupt. There is nothing to fear in this,” he said. “Those who abandon corruption and extortion will be able to live with dignity.”
Dr Shafiqur Rahman made the remarks on Saturday at around 12:30pm while addressing a public rally at the Choudagram Pilot High School field in Choudagram upazila of Cumilla district. He attended the event as the chief guest.
He said the people of Bangladesh are now demanding major change. According to him, the coming change will reflect the aspirations of the youth, the demand for security from mothers, and the dignity of the nation as a whole.
“In the future Bangladesh, there will be no place for domination, fascism, or corrupt governance,” he said.
The Jamaat Ameer stated that the country wants a humane and just society. He said the 11-party alliance is moving forward with the goal of building such a Bangladesh.
Further explaining Jamaat’s vision, he said the party wants to create a society where every citizen enjoys full security of life, property, and dignity. He added that people should earn their livelihoods through honest and halal means, and live with self-respect.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman also outlined the conditions under which Jamaat would cooperate with others if it comes to power. He said even political opponents could contribute, provided certain principles are followed.
“These include no corruption, no bank looting, no stock market manipulation, and no misuse of public funds,” he said. “Justice must be ensured for everyone, and no political party or leader should interfere with the judiciary. The sacrifices made in July must also be respected.”
He concluded by saying that Jamaat-e-Islami would work together with all stakeholders if these conditions are upheld.
