DHAKA: Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Saturday said the interim government intends to hand over state power to the elected government as soon as possible following the February 12 national election.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a views-exchange meeting with officials from various government offices and departments at the Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner’s conference room. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi.

Dismissing speculation about foreign pressure surrounding the upcoming election, Touhid Hossain said there is no such influence on the interim government’s decision-making process. He added that Bangladesh currently enjoys positive and cooperative relations with countries across the world.

“The government remains committed to maintaining cordial relations with all nations,” he said.

Responding to questions regarding justice and law enforcement, the foreign adviser stated that judicial processes should not be rushed. He acknowledged that authorities are yet to be fully certain about the whereabouts of the killers of Hadi, but emphasized that sincere efforts are underway to ensure those responsible are brought to justice as soon as possible.

Earlier in the day, Touhid Hossain paid tribute by laying wreaths at the July Shaheed Memorial alongside family members of the martyrs. He later visited the graves of those who lost their lives in the July movement in Munshiganj town’s Uttar Islampur area and inquired about the wellbeing of the bereaved families.

Among those present at the events were Superintendent of Police Md Menhazul Alam, PPM, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Muhammad Mosabberul Islam, and members of the martyrs’ families.
