DHAKA: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has expressed optimism that the 30th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2026 will play a key role in expanding economic activity, creating employment and strengthening Bangladesh’s export base.
In a message marking the occasion, Prof Yunus said the interim government has remained firmly committed to ensuring economic stability while fostering sustainable growth. Against this backdrop, he described the Dhaka International Trade Fair as a vital instrument for achieving these national objectives.
The month-long fair was formally inaugurated on Saturday by Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Center (CBFEC) in Purbachal’s Rupganj.
Prof Yunus said the fair would contribute significantly to national development by promoting locally manufactured products, encouraging product diversification and attracting foreign investment. He expressed hope that participating countries and institutions would collaborate in a spirit of mutual cooperation and partnership.
“With the meaningful engagement of all stakeholders, I expect the fair to emerge as a vibrant, buyer-friendly and festive occasion,” the chief adviser said, wishing DITF 2026 every success.
On the occasion, he extended his sincere greetings and felicitations to domestic and foreign entrepreneurs, investors, traders and buyers, describing the fair as a unique initiative that highlights Bangladesh’s immense potential on the global stage.
Prof Yunus noted that the Dhaka International Trade Fair plays a crucial role in promoting domestic products and expanding export opportunities. Over the years, he said, the fair has served as an effective platform for showcasing high-quality locally produced goods to local and international visitors, consumers, buyers and importers.
At the same time, the event allows local entrepreneurs and consumers to gain valuable insights into the quality, design and global trends of foreign products, he added.
Originally scheduled to open on January 1, the inauguration of the fair was postponed to January 3 following the government’s declaration of three days of national mourning over the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
