The 7th meeting of the Regent Board of Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU) was held today, Friday, June 27, 2025, at 9:59 AM in the Liberation War Corner meeting room of the university. The meeting was chaired by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor extended greetings and congratulations to the esteemed members of the Regent Board who were present both physically and virtually. At the start of his address for the 7th Regent Board meeting, he paid deep respect and sympathy to the martyred freedom fighters of the great Liberation War and to those who sacrificed their lives or were injured during the July 2024 mass uprising in pursuit of a discrimination-free Bangladesh, along with their families.
He expressed his gratitude to the Honorable Chancellor of the University and President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Shahabuddin, for appointing him as Vice-Chancellor. He also expressed gratitude to the Honorable Chief Adviser of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
He pledged to advance modern science and technology education in the Chittagong Hill Tracts by developing skilled human resources through technology-based education, expanding applied education through creative research and training, and establishing harmony, education, and development through sound ethical education, aiming to elevate the university to an international standard.
Following his assumption of office as Vice-Chancellor, he highlighted the ongoing and completed key initiatives of RMSTU:
Construction of four infrastructures (Administrative Building, Academic Building, Male Student Hall, and Female Student Hall) under the final Master Plan and the “University Establishment Project (2nd Revised)”
Modernization of the Conference Room
Vertical extension of Administrative Building-1
Organizing the first-ever International Bioscience Conference and Carnival 2025 in the Chittagong Hill Tracts
Construction of memorials on campus reflecting the spirit of the 1952 Language Movement, the 1971 Liberation War, and the July 2024 Mass Uprising
Conducting recruitment exams for teachers, officers, and staff to enhance academic and administrative activities
Preparation of complete and up-to-date syllabi for every department under each faculty
Launching official student email accounts under the university’s own domain to ensure student engagement in academic communication and technology use
Successfully organizing the GST admission test
Establishing the Research Innovation and Management Cell to enhance research quality and implement MoUs with national and international universities and organizations
Launching a quality cafeteria to meet student demand
Formulating and launching constitutions for the RMSTU Career Club, RMSTU Debating Society, and RMSTU Journalist Association to enhance student participation and skill development in co-curricular activities
Renovation and modernization of classrooms
Inspiring stakeholders to ensure a clean campus
Renovation and modernization of the university’s guest houses in Rangamati and Dhaka
Construction of alternative roads and bridges due to new infrastructure projects
Initiatives to open a scheduled bank branch on campus for convenient banking services
Formulating and launching a scholarship policy named after the first Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Pradanendu Bikash Chakma, to honor the university’s history and legacy
Initiatives to draft a pension policy to ensure financial security for university teachers, officers, and staff
Organizing training and workshops for teachers, officers, and staff through the IQAC cell
Organizing debate competitions and career-related seminars for students
The Vice-Chancellor briefed the Regent Board on these developments.
Based on discussions with the Regent Board members, the 7th meeting addressed and approved a total of 21 agenda items, including:
Academic Council meeting proceedings
Recruitment of teachers, officers, and staff
Upgradation of officer positions
Confirmation of jobs for teachers, officers, and staff
Approval of various types of leave
Approval of various drafted policies
Approval of constitutions of different student clubs and societies
Nomination of members to various boards
Assignment of additional duties to various positions
Approval of examination results from different departments
The Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, also presented and congratulated the names of nine newly appointed Regent Board members who joined the university’s new journey.
